“When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty........ but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.”

― R. Buckminster Fuller

Design is creative problem solving.

The steps in the design process are well known but a recipe alone can’t produce the breathtaking inspiration of top-tier designs. In fact each step requires ingenuity and determination to yield real results. So what makes a successful designer?

If a designer is not obsessed with creating something great they will settle for something less.

A designer needs to trust themselves to explore new ideas and know a solution will come.

Approaching a problem with a canned solution based on past glories won’t work. A designer must humbly approach each problem with a fresh mind and let the problem itself be the guide.

We don’t know what we don’t know. But as we gain experience, fewer things surprise us.

Collaboration is necessary and it also makes a project fun. There is nothing more precious than an excited motivated team working together to achieve a goal.
